Crown and Caps
After filling in a fractured tooth, crowns and caps protect the remaining tooth structure and improves appearance of your smile. It is a highly used technique in today’s scenario. Dental crown or cap is the tooth-like cap which is fitted over the decaying or fractured tooth to restore its shape, size and improve its appearance. It is mostly done to restore fractured tooth or to protect the tooth with high filling.
A crown protects and strengthens the structure of the tooth which is not possible through filling or other dental restorations. These crowns and caps not only strengthens the tooth but also improves the appearance of your face and enhance your smile.
Fitting a crown or a cap requires at least 2-3 visits to a dentist. Initially, a dentist removes the decay, prepares and shapes the tooth then takes the impressions. Temporary crown is placed over the tooth till the permanent one arrives.
Permanent crowns can be made of stainless steel, all metal, porcelain-fused-to-metal, all resin or all ceramic. Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are highly preferable crowns as they are highly durable and most importantly they look like the natural tooth.
